THE PROJECT

The State University of Campinas and Tufts University present the project Connecting Art Histories: Teaching Non-European Art in Brazilian Universities, with support from the Getty Foundation.
 
Aiming to consolidate, expand and encourage the developing field of Non-European Art in Brazil and the theoretical and methodological debates it engenders, the project intends to establish a research network dedicated to non-European traditions linked to the History of Art area of study of the graduate program in History at UNICAMP. The project foresees collaborations with institutions outside the southeastern axis of Brazil: Universidade Federal do Pará – UFPAUFRB – Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da BahiaUniversidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana (UNILA).
 
The project consists of three courses in the areas of Pre-Columbian artJapanese art, and African Art for students in selected graduate programs at the partner universities. For the general public, school teachers, students and workers in the cultural sector, the project aims to create a digital environment for studies in the area, providing bibliography, suggestions for study materials, original content among the research themes, and a series of monthly lectures on Non-European Art. It will feature professors from the host universities: UNICAMP, TUFTS, UFPA, UFRB and UNILA; and international guest professors of academic excellence, from universities such as Harvard University, Columbia University in the City of New York, UCLA, and others.
