CIHA SÃO PAULO 2022
CIHA SÃO PAULO 2022 Our recommendation for January/2022 is the 35th Ciha World Congress – MOTION: Migrations, from January 17th
The project aims to create a virtual environment for cultural diffusion and scientific dissemination, based on the current context of networks to promote and expand access to research in Non-European Art. Here and on our social media, you can find Recommendations and study materials to learn more and do academic research in the field; our online Lecture Series, where you can learn with the project’s guest professors; and our new video series entitled The Object Speaks, where you can learn a little about the origins of selected artistic objects.
The NEANE Lecture Series is a series of meetings with special guests and professors from the project promoted by the Center for the Study of Non-European Art (NEANE-UNICAMP). The lectures take place once a month and address various fields in non-European artistic traditions based on the research of the guests. The events are being broadcasted on the project’s YouTube channel and soon will be available with translated subtitles.
Objects have an active role in the interactions among humans and non-humans: things circulate; take part in social relations, have agency. They can be saturated of various meanings and values, while their materiality can shape human activity and perception. The object speaks is a series of digital contents in which a chosen object is presented in its cultural and artistic specificity, highlighting how the creation of an object is a complex event that intertwines subjectivities, practices, beliefs, materials.
One of the project’s purposes is collaborating with Brazilian universities through shared courses. During 2022 we will offer seminars in selected Graduate programs within the partner institutions. The three courses – on African and diasporic art, Japanese art and Pre-Colombian/Indigenous art – aim to discuss artistic and cultural traditions that contribute to Brazilian Art and visualities, both in their more general aspects and the dynamics of their interactions with local contexts.
